Barbara Wood
Venue 18: Seaton Ross
Ceramics
A wide variety of hand built decorative and sculptural ceramics using raku, saggar firing and crystalline glazed stoneware/porcelain
All of the pieces are hand built, so no two are identical. Barbara uses a variety of finishing techniques, each with an element of unpredictability. The marks of smoke and fire enhance the organic, burnished saggar fired forms, with colour imparted by the inclusion of salts and oxides. The landscape vessels are coloured by crystalline glazes, in which crystals grow during the firing leaving fluid, ‘frosted’ marks in the glossy surface.
