In the early days of PAOS
Artists in 2016 PAOS,
some of whom are also exhibiting in 2018
In the following year, Craft and Design magazine were promoting May as Craft and Design month with the first week being National Ceramic week, so we decided to bring an independent Pocklington Area Open Studios forward into May. We initially had it over the Bank Holiday weekend but found that to be unsuccessful as too many people were away!
Now we are an established event held in the second weekend of May.
We started off as a part of East Yorkshire Open Studios in the October of 2011. Because there were a lot of artists taking part in the East of the County a group of us decided to promote the West of the County a bit more, by planning a circular route that could be done in a day. We were still under the umbrella of the East Yorkshire Open Studios though...
The potters of the area, Barbara Wood, Gerry Grant, Jill Ford and Penny De Corte invited guests into their studios and that was how it began.
